Being a loner is an acceptable lifestyle and should be free of negative stereotypes.

I’m a loner. Diagnosed with SAD as a teenager. I’m 25 now. Live alone and spend all my free time playing video games. I’m unable to make social connections due to being socially withdrawn from society since I was 16. I gave up trying to make friends and connections with people, and have grown quite happy with my situation. I’m not a school shooter, serial killer, pedophile, rapist or any other kind of criminal. The amount of people online that stereotype “creepy” and reclusive people like me as various criminals is ridiculous and ignorant. I blame the media for propagating these stereotypes. I’m just a hermit, yet I live in fear of being accused as a criminal because of these stereotypes. People shouldn’t be discriminated against for being socially withdrawn and looking “creepy”. People just looking for someone to bully. Shy, socially awkward men seem to be an acceptable target. It disgusts me and makes me glad I’m not “normal”.

Edit: Wow. Most popular post I’ve ever made on reddit. Does it make it a popular or unpopular opinion 🤔? Thanks for the awards guys. I appreciate the positive and negative comments. They either help me or prove my point.

There is too many comments on here for me to read and answer, so here is a couple common ones:

What do I do for work? - Not currently working due to Covid-19 but have worked Data Entry for the last 6 years or so. It allows for a more solitary work environment but still requires cooperation with the team or supervisor like any job.

What is SAD? - Social Anxiety Disorder. I’ve outgrown the anxiety for the most part and just despise having to interact with people. Especially when I have to do “small talk” in order to not be rude. Someone pointed out that it’s evolved into more of an avoidant-dismissive type of personality.

There is a lot of good self help links and advice in the comments for my fellow loners out there who are unhappy. Don’t listen to the negative and focus on the positive.
